Which spanish/english dictionary is better?
Is Larousse Concise Dicitonary better or the Webster's Spanish to English one? I got the Larousse one and am loving it, but I'm not sure if i made the right choice, although, amazon.com users mostly liked larousse.|||it the larousse and i think that your pic is really hot and i think you are hot yourself|||Definitely the Larousse|||I also use the Larousse (not concise) and one from the University of Chicago, but if you are doing proffesional translation I would say go with a couple of them, just to be sure yo find all of the words you need.

Which book is more explicit, has clearer definitions, shows examples, and also gives you definitions that show how the word is used in context?

These three verbs should be included not only with their individual meanings, but in expressions and idioms. Any decent dictionary should give you many different ways these verbs can be used in context.

It was said in the movie Selena (with Jennifer Lopez) and in Princess Protection Program (with Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato). Both times it was said by a mother to a daughter. I'm sure it's in many others but that's just two I could think of right off.

Are larousse spanish dictionaries good for learning castilian (spain's) spanish?
i'm going to spain in a few weeks and i need a good dictionary that is more based on castilian spanish rather than latin american spanish. i was wondering if the larousse mini dictionary is geared more towards castilian or latin american.|||A good dictionary, and I think Larousse is a very good dictionary, has definitions for the most used words in the standard language (the standard language in Spain and Latin America is almost the same). Also, a good dictionary presents words indicating the different meanings of a word, and the best ones also indicate where those meanings are more prevalent (if a word has two different meanings, one in LatAm and one in Spain, the dictionary would show both meanings).
Slang words are not usually present in dictionaries.|||The Spanish spoken in Latin America is Castilian. There's no such thing as Castilian Spanish. Castilian or Castellano and what we can "espa帽ol" is the same language, they're two words that refer to the same thing. There are other totally different languages spoken in Spain, like Catalan, Galician, Basque, etc.
Anyway, Latin American and European Spanish, uses the same grammar and spelling. It's just the accent and word usages that you'll find different. Actually, any good dictionary should work. That being said, you will notice that they use the "vosotros," instead of the "usted," that Latin Americans use. Other minor differences like that will be encountered by you. Otherwise, I would just by a good resource book that deals specifically with Spain, like a travel guidebook. as a native speaker i found myself using a mini english dictionary when i didn't speak english and now that i am fluent i am free to say that "i know more words than the ones on the mini dictionary i used"
if you want something just to hep you out then they should do but if you want to learn spanish i would use other methods.|||any spanish dictionary will do

Thanks for your answers.|||Usually, there's no way. I'm German, and I got used to an American Word 2007 with all that "strange" paper sizes, and no spell check. You have to buy the nationalized add-ons separately, and Microsoft will charge you for that. I didn't see a reason for that and just worked around it, by just defining German paper sizes as the default. But I still have no spell check, and the menus are in English.

I have bought the Idiot's guide to Spanish (complete crap), a bilingual dictionary, Spanish the Easy Way (by Barrons...its actually great)...
I have been making flashcards of the verbs and important nouns...and speaking aloud to myself...I also have been atempting to watch 'Family Guy' in spanish, but it seems to fast and difficult to get anything out of it. I study about an hour a day by myself.
What is the most effective way for me to learn...should I change my tactics...get a tutor...(there aren't any classes starting anytime soon at the Community College)....

Thanks|||I traveled to Argentina and Ecuador this past summer after 2 semesters of college Spanish and frankly could not speak or understand anything. However, I rarely used my dictionary (really it was more of a hassle to pull it out of my purse and look for a word than to just ask what the word meant and I did have a fairly large vocabulary). After a couple of months I became conversational but not by any means fluent. Fluency takes years to accomplish and in my opinion requires living abroad or speaking the language with natives very frequently. I had a friend that was about to start her graduate work in Spanish and she could not understand any of the native speakers until she picked up on the accent. The classroom gives a good understanding of the grammer and vocabulary (vocab also varies immensely from region to region in Spanish-speaking countries so this also requires speaking with native speakers) but the real language learning begins in the country. If you are traveling for only for vacation the vocab is fairly simple and very repetitive so you'll soon catch on if you don't already understand it. However, if you're studying abroad or plan on having frequent conversations with native speakers you'll probably be pretty lost at times but don't stress, you'll soon be able to converse without too much difficulty!|||It depends on how hard you work and how much you love it to learn it. In spanish, are there many different ways to say the word and?
I was typing in spanish on my computer and I had a spanish dictionary installed so that I would not have to deal with a bunch of red lines under all of the words that the english language dictionary didn't understand, but every time that I typed in "y" it said that I had spelled it wrong. That was with the 'spanish-argentina' setting. When I switched it to 'spanish-spain' it went back to normal. %26lt;_%26lt;|||No. To say the word "and" it is only one way Y, there is not other way. Just y. Doesn't.t matter if you come from the Patagonia or from Mexico or from Cuba or Spain. There is just one Spanish and we speak the same language with some variation from words that have Nahuatl or Maya roots in Mexico, Quechua in some countries in South America. What is the difference between Dominican spanish and Latin American spanish?
I am going to the Dominican with my family, and I thought it would be helpful that I know a bit of Latin American spanish...but apparently the spanish there is different from what I know. Do you think I will understand some of what is said? Are the general sayings the same? like Hola..Como estas..aguas..buenos noches? Or should I pick up a 'Dominican Spanish' dictionary|||Diferent dialects, diferent pronunciation, some words could mean something different, a ton of slang words, maded up words only understandable for a native dominican, diferent entonation and stress, you will see that, the spanish in the classroom isnt the same in the streets of domenican republic. the basic ''introducing yourself, greetings, saying goodbye'' stuff is the same of course, but the rest of the normal or daily conversation is diferent.|||Its not much deference but it has.

What is the easiest way to learn Spanish?
I have a spanish/english dictionary; I have the spanish NOW cd; BUT, I read it and I can't half remember any of it/ I know my numerals in spanish they are fairly easy to remember ,but learning to conversate is sooooooooooo HARD....PLEASE HELP, if I learn spanish I will get a raise at my job. For all the 3 plus years I have been a YA member there are a large amount of 10 to 2 year old members, and frankly they really don't have that much "seasoning" As the teens and up do. I haven't been on a whole lot for the last few months until this past week. I had bronchitis then pneumonia. My father had fallen ill and died in April. I then ripped a muscle in my side near the front to back rib and lung about a month ago and have been in a lot of pain, still am. Needless to say I haven't been feeling up to doing much online, but I am here now...it's nice because I missed my contacts like you.

I'm not living in a Spanish speaking country, no one around me speaks it, All I have is my music (Wisin y Yandel), my movies (Spanish subtitles %26amp; Speaking), A Spanish/English dictionary, a couple of Spanish speaking audio tapes, a spanish book %26amp; the desire to learn a new language.

How to remember a spanish peice of writing?
I have a spanish writing exam next week where we have to write a letter to a spanish hotel, it needs to be least 200 words and i have already wrote it, we can only take 30 words and 5 hand drawn pictures into the exam and i am having trouble remembering the words we havent done before, we have a spanish english dictionary with us but looking up every word would take up my time, any ideas to help?|||I'd suggest writing out your letter NOW... [the trick is to work in steps]
First, figure out what you want to say in English and then try to work your way through translating it (I can help you here if you'd like). Then from there, just practice, practice, practice!
Once you have you letter all translated into Spanish to practice, all you have to do is keep reading and writing it over and over until it's memorized (200 words won't take long). When you go into the exam, all you'll need to do now is use those prompts to cue your memory (if necessary--it's better to just memorize it)!

Google used to have a language dictionary that would list all of the Spanish words under the cursor of a page.?
When you would read a web site, under the cursor it would give you the Spanish (or whatever language you chose) equivlent.
It was a great way to learn new words, but I changed computers and I don't know how to find that option on Google again.

How different is Spanish from Tex-Mex?
I am learning Spanish at work from guys who speak what they call Tex-Mex and from a Spanish dictionary. How long before I can speak to others and understand them. Will I be able to commuicate in deep south Mexico. I learn more each day. I can cuss blue streak and know when they ask if I have something and about 300 to 400 words so far in 3 weeks. But I do not undertand them most of the time and only a few understand me all the time? Any thoughts. All teaching me are one generation from Mexico. I already know Spain's Spanish and theirs is somewhat different in many cases.|||Yep, the main difference between the different versions of Spanish is vocabulary. A few words and phrases are different, some minor pronunciation things and pronoun usage, but other than that you'll be fine. I desperately want to learn how to speak spanish?
i know that the best way is to go to a spanish speaking country. but thats not really an option for me right now because im 16. im taking spanish class at school but i want to be able to become fluent, hopefully within a few years or something. do you have any tips?? would memorizing pages out of a spanish dictionary be any good?? or no....lol.

I Need A Spanish Dream Dictionary? Any Help?
Lately, I've been wanting to give my friend--as a gift--a dream dictionary in Spanish; She's been wanting one for quiet a while now.
But the problem is that I can't find any books online. I'm hoping that perhaps someone could help me find a site that sells them online or perhaps find someone who could procure me a quality book, and I would pay them throught Pay-Pal and have them ship it to me.
Also, I'm looking for a quality, comprehensive book; not some old book printed from 1940's.

I need to find an online resource to translate words (more like whole compound terms) from english to spanish. The thing is, that a regular dictionary doesnt work because most of these words belong to a specific context: Sound Engineering (and other subjects around it like electricity, magnetism, acoustics, electronics, etc)
So, for instance, I need to translate the word "lead" to spanish, in the context of electricity, cables.
This is its definition: "A lead is a complete assembly of cable and connectors".

I'm a 4th year spanish student in high school, taking Spanish IB (like AP, but more oral work). I need an electronic spanish-english dictionary ranging from $10 to maybe $30 for school purposes- verb conjugation, pronunciations, translation. Are there any particularly good brands or kinds that people would recommend?|||There's one online for FREE that's a hell of a lot better than translators and what not PLUS there are various examples and usage of the word you're looking up so you're not using something incorrectly. Also there are forums right under the definition of the word you're looking up that people ask questions about and they get the answer from tons of native speakers of the language.

Hands down it's the best as well!|||I always think of those as...TRANSLATORS...they translate everything to the point, meaning that if you type in a sentence, they will do word for word. A lot of meaning gets lost that way, and that's not good!!
You might want to talk to your teacher to see what your options are...IDK...I'm doing french and conjugation is just...GRRR...lol|||I like Franklin...it was many years ago that I saw one, but even then, it did what you need. I'm not sure how good it is.
Is there some reason you can't just use a Collins or Vox DICTIONARY???

Where can I find an English-Spanish biblical dictionary? I have looked everywhere online! I just want a dictionary that is geared to translating terms from Spanish to English and/or vice versa. Please let me know. It is for my mother who knows her bible very well in Spanish but wants to be able to communicate well with English biblical terminology in our American church.

"Que" seems to mean many different things in spanish. The dictionary says that it means who, that, and which?
How do you know which "que" refers to what? how its written? where it is written?
By seeing "que" in a sentence, what does it tell you about the other verbs? Are there any tricks understanding this phrase better?

I need it for an acrostic poem and seriously....there are none in my Spanish dictionary or on the sheet the teacher gave us. Please help! The ones that exist are all derived from foreign languages So here are a few Kafkaesco , Kilo, kilometro, Kabala ( Kabalistico ) Kaki,First and last names beginning with K arealso applied, because it's not generally correct to change names into Spanish, particularly Surnames
