Can you learn spanish by reading a spanish dictionary?

i bought the pimsleur approach cd's and im learning a bit by listening to that but i also want to be able to read and spell in spanish aswell, and i have an english/spanish dictionary lying around somewhere.|||I don't think you can learn just from the dictionary.. BUT..

I too have used the Pimsleur cds and this is what I did and it has helped tremendously.

I listened to the audio and whenever I got to a word I didn't know how to spell or was unsure of how it was spelled, I jotted it down. Then after each lesson I would consult my handy little dictionary to see if I had even remotely spelled the word correctly. I also bought the very inexpensive 501 Spanish Verbs book as an additional reference because as you will see, you will do a lot of different verb conjugations and it really helps to wrap your head around those too. So I just put little markers on each verb as I came across them.

Ok this is getting long, but it should really help you. So now if you check all of those as mentioned above and THEN once you know you have the right spellings write them in a little notepad, and each day you go to the next lesson, reference your notes, it will really help you to visualize and memorize all the words you have already learned.

Hope this helps

Anna|||well, Spanish is more complicated. Sometimes, you have to convert irregular verbs that wouldn't appear on a dictionary. Example:

(Go: Ir)

Present:

Voy

Vas

Va

Vamos

Van

Van

Past:

Fui

Fuiste

Fue

Fuimos

Fueron

Fueron

Future:

Irč°Šs

Etc.

Nevertheless, some words are diferent for male or female, and some are the same

Example:

Cheff

El cheff, la cheff

El juez, la jueZ

El es idiota, ella es idiota

So, for conjugation and grammar it's not a great idea|||definately not! you have to know the structure of the language. if your parents handed you a dictionary when you were little and said "here, good luck learning english" would you know the language? no :) your best bet is native speakers, spanish classes and music. good luck!|||You can learn vocabulary from a dictionary. You won't learn grammar, punctuation, conjugation, etc. So it doesn't hurt to read one but you have to learn grammar or you won't make any sense.|||Not only do you have to know words (you could learn that from reading the dictionary), but you have to know the grammar as well. I don't think the dictionary teaches you grammar...

=)|||No.
